Look for Less: Copy Meghan Markle’s Best Fall Outfits
From well before she was ever known for being a royal, Meghan Markle’s style was impeccable. From perfectly tailored basics to dresses the collective onlookers wanted to added to their closets ASAP, she’s never had a problem nailing a look.
Then, as she progressively got more into the spotlight as a royal, her reputation for having some of the most inspirational style of the time skyrocketed. Why? No matter who you are or what you gravitate toward, Meghan has looks that can speak to you. Love basics? She’ll show you how jeans and a striped tee are done to perfection. Like a bit more edge to your pieces? She’ll show you how to get away with wearing leather pants to a charity lunch.
Since moving to California and starting a new life with a whole lot less rules around what she can wear, it’s not really a surprise that somehow, her style has gotten even better. Today’s lesson? Dressing for fall like our favorite (ex) royal.
When Meghan recently stepped out of the car in New York and revealed this look, it felt like the entirety of the internet did a simultaneous gasp. Consider this an example of how to nail a monochromatic look absolutely perfectly.
Not only is this look incredible for the hue of red Meghan chose (which happens to look incredible on her), the slightly oversized fit of the ensemble made it feel cooler than any old trouser and coat set. With a touch of black with her shirt underneath and a red pump to complete it, this is our favorite look of Meghan’s to date—no competition.
There’s nothing better for fall than a good trench coat, and what we’re taking from this look is just how good it looks over an all-black base. With black pieces underneath, the tan of the trench coat pops, and gives a classic, cohesive feel. With oversized sunnies and a slicked-back bun, it’s an Audrey-Hepburn-esque look that will never go out of style.
Meghan Markle is known for her tailored looks, but this combination took it to a whole different level. With a base of a simple navy turtleneck and classic trousers, the long-line navy coat she put over top escalates it to a level of chicness that makes it feel like she’s wearing much more than just a combination of basics. The longer coat on top of the trousers in a similar shade make her look taller, and the blue heels pull it all together seamlessly.
Meghan has monochrome dressing absolutely mastered, and this look has stuck in our heads for years because of just how good it is. The key? Not only is she wearing slightly different hues of brown to give it some visual interest, but she mixed textures (wool, silk, and suede) as well. If this doesn’t inspire you to break out a midi dress this fall, we don’t know what will.
It’s the year of athleisure, but that doesn’t mean it can’t look put-together and cool. Let me introduce Exhibit A.
Meghan’s all-black workout look is something most of us probably have in our closets, so the real inspiration comes from combining it with a camel coat and black baseball hat. It’s an off-duty weekend look that’s easy to nail ourselves as mere mortals, and we have a feeling we’ll be turning to it quite a bit this fall.
Sometimes, nothing beats the classics, and Meghan often shows us why. This combination of a plaid blazer, white button-up, black jeans, and black boots is utter perfection in that it’s made completely of closet staples, but they’re paired together so well that they don’t look dated or boring.
